Kapil Bhatia

Mr. Bhatia joined Raymond James in 2005 and has over 24 years of municipal experience. Prior to joining Raymond James, Mr. Bhatia worked at Hillsborough County, Florida and New York City as part of debt management teams. At the County, he was an integral part of the debt management team and developed the Commercial Paper program, worked on water and wastewater financings, solid waste financings, and special assessment financings. Mr. Bhatia helped these entities structure and issue over $10 billion in financings during his tenure, including large complicated financings with global distribution.

Raymond James provides holistic financial and investment advice to some of the largest quasi-governmental entities with catastrophic risk in the United States. We have an established specialty group that has worked in this sector since 1999. As the head of Raymond James’ Insurance Advisory Group for over 11 years, Mr. Bhatia has led the quantitative and analytical efforts for capital markets financings, risk transfer programs, and investments for the firm’s engagements with all of its catastrophe insurance clients, including Citizens Property Insurance Corporation, the California Earthquake Authority, the Florida Hurricane Catastrophe Fund, Florida Insurance Guaranty Association, New York’s Metropolitan Transportation Authority, Texas Windstorm Insurance Association, North Carolina Insurance Underwriting Association and Louisiana Citizens Property Insurance Corporation.

Mr. Bhatia has played a lead role in structuring over $27 billion in municipal financings, private reinsurance placements, and over $10 billion in alternative capital markets financings (including $6.1 billion in catastrophe bonds for these entities), and acted as investment consultant for over $33 billion of assets under management. In addition, the Insurance Advisory Group provides assistance to our clients through legislative, business, and economic analyses. Mr. Bhatia has also presented market updates and specific information regarding our clients before State Cabinets. Mr. Bhatia also presents a quarterly report to Citizens’ Board of Governors, a semi-annual claims-paying report to the FHCF’s Advisory Council, and an annual state of the market update for the CEA’s Board.

Mr. Bhatia received his B.A. (Honors) in Economics from University of Delhi and an M.B.A. in Finance from Pace University. He has also completed a coursework for a master’s degree in economics at New York University. Mr. Bhatia holds his Series 7 (General Securities Representative), Series 50 (Municipal Advisor Representative), Series 53 (Municipal Securities Principal), Series 63 (Uniform Securities Agent State Law), Series 65 (Uniform Investment Adviser Law), and Series 79 (Investment Banking Representative) licenses.
