Camino: not just a road anymore

Camino: not just a road anymore

Okay, if you’re reading this on a Mac (as you should be!) then you ought to be reading it with Camino. Don’t confuse Camino with an El Camino, which is an entirely different beast.
What’s the big deal? Well, besides the givens like complete W3C standards support, tabs, and pop-up blocking, it just looks great. It’s like Firefox (in fact, it’s built on the same rendering engine) but has a true Mac-like aesthetic and feel. I love its “annoyance controls,” which include blocking ads on pages (try loading up CNN.com in it and you’ll notice a nice, white hole where some distracting animated ad would usually appear). And it’s quick… feels much snappier than Safari in most cases.

  1. It’s long past time to update this post with a comment about my browser of choice. Since its version 4 release, Apple’s Safari has been my go-to browser, even on the PC. I use Firefox 3.5 equally as much, but give Safari the edge as far as my favorite. It’s snappier and has a more muted interface than FF.
Camino is now at version 2.0 and is still a good choice for a Mac browser. But with competition from Apple and even Google with its Chrome browser, Camino has fallen a bit behind in my browser roster.
