Port Townsend weekend

Port Townsend weekend

Port Townsend town logo This past weekend, Crystal and I visited our good friends Mike and Brad out in Port Townsend, WA. What a relaxing and enjoyable weekend. We saw the quaint town, drove around surrounding area, and played with Brad’s Wii and their cats.

Being in Port Townsend reminds me of what it must have been like in small-town America back in the 40s (excepting, of course, for the modern cars and prices!). The downtown is full of little shops and eateries and small businesses. The water and Olympics are beautiful, the Victorian houses as quaint as the people are friendly. It’s pretty idyllic out there… save for the nasty paper mill stink up on Upper Sims Road.

We drove around the area, visiting Hadlock, Nordlin, Port Gamble, and Ft. Worden and Ft. Flagler state parks. We enjoyed a nice breakfast on Sunday at the Salal cafe. Service was a bit slow and the prices were a bit high, but Mike told me that’s par for the course for Port Townsend.

Crystal and I thoroughly enjoyed our visit and will likely be back for another visit in the summer. There are a number of festivals during the summer that swell the population to 30,000. Maybe we’ll go across on our friend Larry’s new housebout, which we affectionately refer to as the floating party barge?

We had a wonderful time taking you on the tour as we discovered a few places we hadn’t even been yet. (For example, I finally found the location of PT’s other Chinese restaurant.)

We miss you already, and so do the cats. You are welcome to visit anytime!
