Police Reunion

Police Reunion

The PoliceNo, this post isn’t about another installment of the Steve Guttenberg police comedies. It’s about the real Police: Sting, Andy Summers, and Steward Copeland!

In an historic GRAMMY® moment, the Police (Sting, Stewart Copeland, and Andy Summers) will reunite and perform together for the first time on the GRAMMYs when they open the 49th Annual GRAMMY® Awards telecast on Feb. 11, it was announced today [Jan 30th] by The Recording Academy®.

Why it took me a week to get this news, I’m not sure. The reunion celebrates the 30th anniversary of the group’s ubiquitous song Roxanne. What exciting news for those of us who are big Sting fans but whose hearts really long to hear more Police. Don’t get me wrong; I think Sting’s done wonderfully as a solo artist (Ten Summoner’s Tales has spun on my CD player more than any other disc). But there’s nothing like the infectious hooks, incredible lyrics, and raw energy of the Police. Too bad Andy and Stewart didn’t share some of Sting’s popularity.

UPDATE: Well, they played… it was Roxanne, and it wasn’t amazing. First, I’m probably as tired of that song as the Sting himself. Second, the vocals were hard to hear so it wasn’t a stellar performance. But it was the Police and I’ve learned today that they’re embarking on an actual reunion tour—including Seattle’s Key Arena on 6 June. Hmmmm… are middle-aged re-united Police worth the cash?

UPDATE 2: I did see The Police… and it rocked.

  1. “are middle-aged re-united Police worth the cash?”

If you look at it that way then probably not. But I like to think of it differently. How much longer will they be alive, reunited and decide to tour? Probably not much longer. Since your such a big Sting and Police fan I’d think you were crazy to not see them.

I wasnt too excited to see Black Sabbath but I’m glad I did, now they arent touring and it was a once in my lifetime chance. That’s pretty much how I choose concerts, is if I will be able to see them again if I’m on the fence.

I will always regret not seeing Fleetwood Mac 10 years ago when they went on their reunion tour…..right after Washington they broke up and Christine McVie left the group.
